Introduction to Projects and Publications

From early in the history of Columbine Genealogical & Historical Society, Inc., members have been working on projects. Perhaps the first was the collection of pedigree charts from the members. Later the pedigree charts were displayed in 3-ring binders at Columbine meetings as well as a copy being maintained at the Edwin A. Bemis Public Library in Littleton, Colorado. In early2008 a copy of the list of surnames from the pedigree charts, with appropriate identifying information was placed on the Columbine WebSite.

Before long, members had created a list (manuscript) of genealogy related publications at the Bemis Library. Over the years, this manuscript has been updated, copies being distributed to Bemis, as well as other local libraries. At present a new revision is being undertaken. This project has grown as Columbine has donated more and more books to the library. Over the years, Bemis has continued to add to their collection. When this projects completes, the bibliography will be made available and put up on the Site.

Since these early, and ongoing projects, several major undertakings have been completed. Books have been published, and to the extent possible, these books, or their indexes, are being added to the Site. Personal Columbine member projects and publications are also added when they are expected to contribute to genealogical or family history research.

Presently (May 2008) on the Site are:

Publications: Littleton Cemetery Interment Records, Arapahoe County Marriages, Cemeteries of Colorado and Colorado Cemetery Index.

Indexed Publications: Our Heritage, People of Douglas County, Colorado.

Databases: Member Surnames from the member pedigree charts. [This database is updated as new charts are processed.]

Obituaries: Obituaries from the Littleton Independent, Littleton, Colorado. [This project is just underway and will be updated periodically.]

Projects Underway or planned

Edwin A. Bemis Public Library Genealogical Bibliography: Over 3,000 books, periodicals, microfilm and manuscripts. [This project is just underway and is not up for viewing at this time.]
